HOMES FOR WIDOWS PROJECT
ST. JOHN'S, WEST BEND, WISCONSIN TEAM

The St John's team arrived February 17th with passengers and bags intact. They even tried to fool us by arriving 30 minutes early....but we caught it and were there to greet them! They spent the afternoon at our house tasting some of the fruits of Guatemala, enjoyed a tour of the school our kids attend and had a wonderful dinner and nights stay at Telma's Mission House. The night of their arrival the temperature in Wisconsin fell to -17, leaving a difference of almost 100 degrees between their homes in Wis and their temporary home in San Cristobal!!

The trip up to Salquil was problem-free with minimal delays for construction. They spent Sunday morning working at the site. In the afternoon they attended a wedding in the village (the couple attend Lap's church) and were also blessed to attend the house dedication at Juana's. Juana was the widow that we built a house for last month with the help of the Westbrook team. It was a very full day with all feeling very blessed!

The week held a lot of moments like that. The team spent the week digging the hole for the outhouse. At last count it was 17 feet deep. They also built the sauna/bathhouse, which the widows will use for personal hygiene. There was also a lot of dirt excavation that took place. The property is now leveled and ready for the rest of the construction. Those who saw the land at the very beginning may not recognize it now! They also had a time of worship at the site thanks to Benito and his band....

The team took a trip into Nebaj for a tour of the Christian hospital and then had dinner at Pizza de Cesar.

The trip to Antigua from Salquil on Saturday was roadblock-free, making their time back "record breaking"....  Hopefully a sign of things to come! There were some white-knuckle moments on the return trip, but nothing out of the ordinary. The team enjoyed some traditional food for dinner that night and hiked Volcano Pacaya on Sunday after attending Union Church in the morning. Thankfully, they had a cloudless day, though it was quite windy. All of them made it to the top!

The Lord really blessed their time in Salquil and we are once again grateful for the partnership we have with St John's.
