Westbrook Team Update

Photos of project

Greetings to everyone!

We would like to thank you for your prayer support!

The Westbrook team arrived, luggage intact, and we were able to make our destination without any problems.  It is always so fascinating to see how God puts things together and why He drew this particular team to come at this particular time was definitely answered prayer!

The project we took on with this team was to build a home for a widow in Salquil on her son's property.  We used new materials and a design only used once before by the EMI team that developed this style home.  The Lord brought together four couples from Westbrook:  Kris and Jeff, who are in the midst of a home remodel they termed the "money pit",  Kim and Duane,  Kim (who is a nurse, which came in handy, especially working around chicken wire!), Duane, who is an architect and spent time reading through the plans, making necessary changes to make it all work out right, Paul and Barb, Barb being a nurse, also, and and was prepared for anything, and Paul, one of those all-around "put me anywhere" type of guys who blessed us all, and Bob and Amy, who were the team leaders with their background in concrete.  Bob owns a masonry business and we knew the project would start on level ground.  They all worked together as one, making the project fun to be a part of!

Juana, the widow we would all come to admire, is 62 years old and quite a strong woman!  Her husband was killed during the Civil War here in the 1980's.  She has lived in the shack she calls "home" for the past 15 years.  She worked beside us all week, hauling bricks, sand, gravel and water on her head to help us complete the task before us.  Her son, daughters, in-laws and grandchildren were all very much involved with helping us complete the project, also.  The week seemed to go incredibly fast and, though the team was tempted to cancel Antigua with the thought of completing the house, we pursuaded them to go.

Lap, our foreman at the widow's site, has been out of work for a while and he really could use the work.  He felt he would be able to complete the job in two weeks.  After that, he will be preparing the widow's property for the next project there.  We plan to build a hostel out of adobe to host teams in the future and for the widow's to use as possible income when not in use.  With the road construction being done in the area, there is great hope that tourism will come to this region and the widows would be in a wonderful situation to make an income of the hostel.

The Lord truly blessed our time in Salquil!  It showed me, once again, that though we came to serve and bless, we were the ones who were served and blessed more!

Thank you ,again ,for your prayers and thoughts. My mother-in-law (Marie) held down the house without problems, the kids remained healthy and safe, and Mike and I felt the coverage in prayer throughout our travels.  God bless!

In His Service,
Chris and Mike
