El Refugio: September 2009 Update
We are thankful for the many lives we were able to touch this month. Though we had a few that only stayed for lunch, we were thankful to have the opportunity to offer them the love of Christ. For some women, entering a foreign place like El Refugio is just too difficult, leaving them the only option they know, which is to return to their abusive lives. We continue to pray for opportunities to help hurting women see more than their eyes are accustomed to seeing.

September also brought forth additional help at the shelter. Susan, a missionary here working with HOPE Bible Mission, has begun weekly visits with her high school son Josh. Josh is becoming a bigger brother to the kids, showing them what a healthy young person is like. The kids love having him around, too. While Susan is visiting with the women, Josh is doing projects with the kids. He’s had his hands full this month with nine kids in the shelter, but he seems to enjoy his time with the kids.
Susie continues to counsel the women and older children on Mondays and Silpa is coming one afternoon a week to lead a Bible study with the ladies. The Amigos (Friends) Church next door has been holding children’s activities every Friday afternoon, something the children at El Refugio look forward to each week. We continue to pray for other opportunities for people to come in and share the love of Jesus while teaching the ladies life skills. Please pray that the Lord would bring forth a harvest of helpers to grow our ministry in new areas.
Blessings,
Chris and Mike
