May 20, 2007
In January, we were blessed by the arrival of our first
work team in 2007! Westbrook Church (Wisconsin) sent ten people
led once more by Amy and Bob Bickett. The others in
this team were: Mickey and her daughter Stephanie,
Bobby Jo and her son Taylor, Ed, Gary, Bethany and
Lisa.

The team arrived Saturday night and headed out to
Salquil Grande around 10 the next morning. At this
time, there is a lot of construction going on around the
Capital, so they were hit with that right off the bat;
but, once they got far enough away, they were able to
enjoy the sights and sounds of Guatemala. They arrived
a bit later than we had planned for that evening and spent
their initial time getting acclimated to their home
for the week. Their homes (the second floor
classrooms) tended to be a bit soggy during the week
as there were several leaks in the roof at Light and
Life school. We hope to have some folks come next year
to replace the roof!
The team spent most of the week working on the hostel
with Lap. Though the weather tried to hamper their
progress with rain showers throughout the week, they
were able to complete their task of getting the roof
framed and up. They also spent one afternoon doing a
VBS with the kids from the school. The kids and the
leaders were all truly blessed with their time
together.

On Wednesday night. Mike, Erick and the team hosted a
dinner for the Mayor, the local clinic nurse, and
pastors in the community. It was an opportunity to
share what our hopes and dreams are for the widows and
single mothers in Salquil, and express our prayer that they
would want to work beside us to see it come to
fruition. Mike and Erick were very encouraged by the
evening and wished they had done this dinner sooner.
We pray the Lord will use that evening to sow seeds
that will have an impact there.

Dr. Erick also had a clinic open for those in need
during the week, which was also a first for us. We felt
it was an added blessing, and hope to do that more in
the future as well.
The team finished off the week with a night in
Antigua, a hot shower, bargain shopping and a nice
dinner. They joined the ranks of all of our teams and
hiked up Volcan Pacaya. For those of you who have had
the chance to do it in the past.....you should see it
now! You would almost not recognize the changes that
have taken place! The team spent time hiking over
cooled lava fields, while feeling the heat rising
under them. Due to the time of day, they were not able
to climb to the top, though it is not encouraged at
this time due to all the activity at the there. I
believe they all enjoyed their time right where they
were!
We hope you enjoy the photos!
