Weaving Hope Update/ Salquil Grande

The Northbrook Missions Team arrived in Guatemala on April 17th ready to work. They spent their first day with us, enjoying the opportunity to be cheerleaders for one of Taylor’s volleyball games. They also had the opportunity to visit El Refugio and the ladies staying there. It was a wonderful afternoon of fellowship as the three ladies in the shelter shared their stories with the team.

1) Carlos receiving a case of vitamins for
the children at the school

Mike packed up the team Saturday morning and after a time of prayer headed up to Salquil Grande where they would spend their week working on the hostel. Housing this year would take them to Sharon’s house, a small home but cozy. Unfortunately, there is a water shortage in the community so they were a bit challenged during their time there. They seemed to handle all the challenges very well. This year the team got the chance to work with Benito and Sh’as, which they all seemed to enjoy immensely. They were all stretched to do things outside their comfort zone: they replaced tiles on the roof, rapeyo on the interior walls, the piping for the septic system, and they built another retaining wall. One of the members of the team, Marlis, spent most of her week at Light and Life School. Sara, the team leader who has led other teams in the past, seemed to enjoy all the challenges this year and kept the team motivated throughout the week. Sara had the opportunity to present two donated laptops to Carlos at the school. She even took on quite the challenge, according to Mike, working with Sh’as to haul water from the river to Sharon’s house.

When the team returned to San Cristobal, they were treated to the Elementary Spring Concert that Leah was in. On Sataurday, they had another opportunity to watch Taylor’s volleyball team win (one of their two championships) before heading down to Antigua for a time of souvenir shopping. We took them to Portal del Angel (Portal to the Angels) for dinner their last night in Guatemala, where they enjoyed a wonderful dinner along with an incredible view of the Capital.
We are once again very thankful to Northbrook Church and their commitment to seeing our ministries succeed.

4) the kids that were helping at the hostel site
were given the opportunity to make their
own visors. They loved doing it!

We thank you in advance for your support!
