Light and Life Update
December Work Report
The month of November brought some difficult work. The first week of the month was dedicated to the revising of the Guatemalan National Curriculum Base. It was edited in Word so that the students would be able to color the pictures that go with the lessons. We changed the original format so that we were able to color and edit our previous work.
During the second week, we made charts to record information such as behavior control, good attendance, promoting good hygiene, and classroom standards.
In the last two weeks of the month, we worked more on developing the books in Ixil. The stories were created in a rough draft form. We read them to be sure they included an introduction, climax, and resolution. The stories could then be seen as a complete train of thought. In the end, it was a lovely experience that simultaneously helped the writers with their grammar. They were able to see their mistakes and correct them through the reading of the stories.
Once the stories were written, the next task was to work on illustrations and determine the appropriate number of pages for the book. During the editing process, the amount of paragraphs in each page was also decided upon. Throughout all of this, the contribution of each individual and his experience was necessary for creating and expanding on the book.
Before we realized, the month was already coming to a close. However, we are satisfied with our work in the teaching and preparation of instructional material, and are proud of our finished books which are ready to be presented in 2010. We are hoping that in the next year we will continue to produce more books as it is a great tool for teaching our students.
We are very thankful for the economic support that we have been given. The help of the new technology is already significantly advancing our work. It’s a matter of taking advantage of the resources that we have.
In His Service,
Carlos
